Parent supplied:
1 & 2 - 1974 Super Beetles. Both blue, yet orange underneath. First one got the steering smashed up (low speed corner in the snow, and it swapped ends a few times until the right front tire kissed a curb), and the second one developed too many issues to be economically fixable.
3 - Type III notchback. Slower than the Bugs, and costlier to run, as the Bosch fuel injection was rubbish.
Cars I actually bought myself, under my own insurance?
1 - 1981 Mustang, notchback. 200ci, slushbox. Not the fastest nor the quickest I've ever owned. It did have one perk though- being all-white, it was virtually invisible to the po-po. No speeding tickets.
2 - 1990 Isuzu P'up. 2.6 engine, lifted with roughly 1300W of lighting. I sure do miss her. Couldn't afford the payments after being laid off and getting a lower paying job.
3 - Pontiac Firefly. Shut up, it was all I could afford. Bonus, apart from the fantastic mileage? Shockingly fun to drive. Keep the revs up in the twisties, and it's a very tossable car. Changing the brake calipers doubles the value of the car ( they were hella expensive). Sold it when i saw one wrapped nose-to-tail around a light standard.

1. 1980 Volkswagen Rabbit L Fuel Injection 1.6 3-door. $0. I had zero interest in import cars, but it was a hand-me-down gift from my cousin. I seized the engine by snapping the oil pump pickup after jumping a train crossing.
2. 1979 Volkswagen Rabbit L Fuel Injection 1.5 5-door. $3500. It was a mint-condition low-km car at the VW dealer where I worked by then. I totalled it when i crashed into an embankment after repeatedly catching air over a lip at a curve on a dirt road.
3. 1983 Volkswagen Rabbit L Fuel Injection 1.7 3-door. $300. Also from the VW dealer. Totalled it one night when I crashed into a car parked on the side of the road.
Yeah, I had a love/hate relationship with VW Rabbits.

grandpa gave me his '88 jeep comanche, it was hooned well, and i sold it to a friend who totaled it within a couple of months. straight-piped through dual rectangular camaro tips means it sounded like a pissed off tug-boat. and it had 10 year old tires, so i could drift it anytime i felt like it. after selling that, i bought a '71 nova. original LT1 with double hump heads, crane valvetrain, torkker intake & demon 750. still got it, but electrical gremlins and poor fuel milage and slicks kept it from being 'viable transportation' (didn't stop me from driving it to highschool and college. my first 'economy' vehicle was fairly awesome, it was a '91 toyota pickup extended cab with a 22-re/slushbox and i was crossing houston everyday, but i could litterally drive it flatfooted thanks to sttretched throttle linkage. it threw a rod, and slammed the piston into the valves, and still drove me home. i rebuilt the engine and traded it for a pair of 4-wheelers.

My e30 is a 325e but still has the m20b27 2.7 liter. Would like to swap a 325i head onto the block and have a higher revving stroker. I don't see that happening any time soon thought. Will probably go the cheaper route and swap a ford 302 v8

1. Citroen Traction Avant. Gorgeous, cool, comfortable, rusty, hopelessly unreliable, surprisingly quick on gravel, and the worst turning circle of any car ever.
2. Hillman Avenger. Dead boring apart from a heart-stopping tendency to lock the rears under braking. On the other hand, unlike the Citroen, I spent more time fixing it than driving it.
3. Renault 4. Cost me 50 pounds, and I put 12000 miles on it with zero maintenance. Only had one straight panel, and that wasn't the roof - amazing how much space people give a car like that in traffic. Cheap, bombproof, hilarious handling, and enough space to sleep in the back.
..and I've continued the pattern of alternating heart & head buys pretty much ever since.

It was pretty damn sweet. It was my Dad's before he gave it to me. I got rid of it because I had a few things go wrong with it and it was real expensive. I didn't want to deal with more stuff going wrong with it. I miss that car every day. If only there was an option for a manual...
